Calvanist...further...they were both heavily influenced by Bresson. Take another look at 'Diary of a Country Priest'. This was an
allegory, a redemptive tale. Travis Bickle died...redeemed (saving Iris from
her enslavement) & went to paradise. Marty claims he believed Travis was
severely mentally ill & lived to kill again (sequel possibilities) but he
doesn't know his own mind. Travis...like Maximus...died in a worthy cause and
went to Elysium. Simple.
