OK, I watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory again, and I have reached the conclusion that those kids didn't deserve to be punished; they needed counselling, and in some cases, meds.
Veruca Salt had Borderline Personality Disorder, Augustus Gloop an eating disorder, Violet Beauregard was Bi-polar with features of Schizophrenia, Mike TV had ADD, & Charlie Bucket wasn't punished, but he had Narcissistic Personality Disorder, an exaggerated sense of self-importance, expecting to be recognized as superior even without achievements that warrant it, exaggerating your achievements and talents, being preoccupied with fantasies about success, power, brilliance, etc. How else can you account for thinking you should get the golden ticket over billions of other just as worthy people on the planet, just because you are poor and downtrodden?
As for Willy Wonka...he is a Sociopath, & I think the local Council Health and Safety agency would have something to say about his closed door policy in the factory.
